I always knew sport has a magical impact on the human body. It works wonders. I never knew one doesn’t even have to be engaged in any kind of sport seriously to get some of these wonders. For example, to get a sports injury. I was wrong. And now I have a «tennis elbow». Which seems absolutely unfair (but amazing, I have to admit it), because I don’t even have a tennis racket.
Since I ignored the fact that sport will catch up everyone one day, and I did it for quite a long time, my abilities are temporarily unavailable, and my recovery process promises to be long and boring (when one day you realise that you can’t hold a cup of tea in your hand, it’s not just an annoying fatigue, but a very neglected case).
That’s why I’ve been in a «read-only» mode for the last few months, and I still avoid writing, and drawing, and sewing, and knitting, and repairing broken pottery… The hardest thing in all this situation is not to write, so I write anyway, though after each creative relapse I have to take long break, because, yes, now even the most favourite activities feel different (sometimes painful).
It’s getting better, but I don’t know how long the rehabilitation will take, sometimes I think — forever (though, okay, it was me who did her best to worsen the situation, and everyone must pay for their sins, or something like that… but for some reason I’m not thrilled anyway).
But now, since I read a lot instead, I know more about Japanese history, and literature, and crafts, and everyday life. It’s not all for nothing.
So let’s turn to the past.
For example, I made this (see photo) set of doll clothes for Anežka (it’s not Rory, if anyone didn’t notice) something around a year ago.
Japanese batiste («Wonder» by echino, by Kokka), made-to-measure, with my own pattern (although façon is not unique, yep), sewn entirely by hand (all seams (french seams) and stitches (both invisible and very visible, decorative stitches) — 100% handmade, no sewing machine involved).
One week of thinking, two evenings of work, a lot of questions from unknown people if I would like to sell it (but my art is not for sale, nope).
I wanted to try couple of things and to make the doll’s outfit special at the same time, and all went well (well, in my humble opinion) from the first try, so I was very pleased with no need to invent something else.
Anežka was specially made for my anniversary (by Jarmila Ditrychová), and she deserved a special outfit (that’s why even her felt booties are not just another doll shoes, but they look almost like the ones in my childhood, and were made by Vaida Petreikis).
If my arm doesn’t fall off completely, one day I’ll sew something cooler.
But for now that’s all.
