Headbands and Replacements

Every happy owner of Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones knows: after several years of use, this product of Japanese advanced engineering thought starts to peel off. It leaves black flakes of polyurethane (or whatever it is) everywhere, and knowledge that it was an improved material, comparing to ATH-M50, doesn’t help at all. So to get «extra body to bass, a balanced midrange and fairly bright treble audio reproduction» (as it is said on some RTINGS website) back, every happy owner has to buy a new ear pad. Or, better, two pads (they are sold individually).
This solves half the problem.

The headband continues to lose its former glory (and even the logo) somewhere around your head. And it is irreplaceable.
Therefore, you can either throw away your old headphones with brand new ear pads, or buy a weird thing with a zipper (but in different colours, which is nice) to pull over the headband.

As Rory shows us, there is another way: to deal with it without strange ready-made solutions. For example, the cotton ribbon from her headband can work great for headphones too, depends on how you tie it.
Of course, it takes some effort and work (sewing skills are also required), but in the end it is worth it (and at the same time, it adds colour and texture).
If you don’t believe Rory, just google replaceable headbands for Audio-Technica (but don’t google the custom-made real leather ones, they look way cooler, and that’s not the comparison we need).
